1. TEAM TRAIL'S ODE TO 2019
Looking back with gratitude.
Are you also feeling like you've done enough for the year? Do you feel it's like the final metres of a long and challenging trail run that you've enjoyed, but now it's time to put your feet up?
That's definitely how we feel here in the TRAIL studio. This has been a year of some big achievements by all of us. There were some big challenges. They weren't easy, but we achieved them, and I'm so grateful for the opportunities. I hope you're as grateful for your own achievements.
New issue. We got advance copies of the new Jan/Feb/Mar 2020 issue 34 this week. Wow! Although Heloise and I have been tinkering with each word and image in the innards of the machine for weeks, now looking at it zoomed out, I have to say I am so impressed by the depth of content.
I say this every issue, but this really is our best yet.
I think what makes issue 34 so special is the mix of viewpoints, cultures, and sometimes crazy angles on the trail running experience that we manage to find and unpack. You're going to love this issue.
We also printed on a coated paper which makes the images much crisper, and we've paid special attention to detail in the shadows of photos.
Look out for #TRAIL34 in stores from Monday (it's a public holiday, but many stores will have been stocked). If in any doubt, call ahead, or drop by on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Mystery Athlete (no more). Port Elizabeth's Annalise Scholtz is our cover athlete for issue 34. We were impressed by her life as much as her achievements at winning five ultra trails, including two 100 milers, this year. Her story is one of the most captivating I've encountered yet in local trail running. It's one of losing one's way, finding it, and then facing the biggest challenge of your life, as someone you love fights for their life... You'll be inspired by this story.
